The Development Marketplace is proud to team up with the World Bank's Youth-to-Youth Community and WBI Staff Learning to and bring to you "Who Cares?" a comprehensive and fascinating film documenting the work of social enterprises across the globe. The film will be follwed by a discussion with the film's director, Mara Mourao and founder and CEO of Ashoka, Bill Drayton. The discussion will be moderated by the director of Innovation Labs at the World Bank Institute, Aleem Walji. In addition to this fascinating discussion, we will also be hosting a light reception after the film.

 

 

About the participants:

 

 width=Mara Mourão is a Brazilian director with a repertoire of award-winning movies, including Doctors of Joy, Avassaladoras, and Alô? She studied at FAAP in Brazil and at New York University in New York City.

 

 

 

 

 

 Bill Drayton is a pioneer of social entrepreneurship. After serving as an Assistant Administrator of the US Environmental Protection Agency, he founded Ashoka in 1980. Since then, the organization has provided start-up financing, professional support, and global connections to social entrepreneurs across 80 countries.

 

 

 

Aleem Walji is the Director of the World Bank Group's Innovation Labs. He oversees the Development Marketplace program which provides finance, advisory services, and policy support to social businesses and social enterprises, serving bottom of pyramid clients in South Asia and the Middle East and North Africa.
