DM2009 Global Competition: Innovations for Climate Change Adaptation Until recently, much of the focus on climate change responses has tended to be on reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, or mitigation. The importance and focus on adaptation, given that many communities already face direct impacts, is not that widely accepted. Thus, there is a need to bring this focus and stimulate innovative solutions that help communities and governments better manage risk from climate change. Against this backdrop, the Development Marketplace Competition (DM2009) is focused on Climate Adaptation.

DM2009 had three sub-themes under the umbrella of Climate Change Adaptation:
