More About Development Marketplace Competitions
The Development Marketplace is all about bringing together social entrepreneurs to share ideas and compete against each other for funding of their projects. DM Competitions are held at the global, regional and country level. While at each type of competition has specific characteristics, all loosely follow the same structure:
1. There is a call for proposals.
2. The proposals undergo rigorous scrutiny by development experts from inside and outside the World Bank who select finalists.
3. Finalists are brought together at a Marketplace event to present their ideas to the public and participate in networking and knowledge sharing with other applicants.
4. A jury comprised of seasoned development professionals from inside and outside the World Bank interview the finalists during the Marketplace and then select the projects for DM funding. The winners are announced at the close of the Marketplace event.
