Hardeep Singh Puri

Hardeep Singh Puri has been the permanent representative of India to the United Nations since May 2009. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1974. During his 36 years of service, he has served at the headquarters of the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, as Under Secretary, as Director in the Foreign Secretary’s Office, as Joint Secretary of the Americas (AMS) and Europe West (EW) Divisions and on deputation to the Ministry of Defense, and as Secretary (Economic Relations)

In India’s Missions abroad, he served in Tokyo, Geneva and Colombo, was Deputy High Commissioner in London, Permanent Representative to United Nations in Geneva and Ambassador to Brazil. 

He received his graduate and post-graduate degrees with top honors from Delhi University.
