Read a new blog post Mobile-Enhanced Participatory Budgeting in the DRC by Boris Weber and Felipe Estefan from the Governance practice at the World Bank Institute.
In this post, Boris and Felipe talk about the role of ICT tools especially mobile phones in enhancing transparency and accountability in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They go on to explain how these are used in different ways to ease citizens' participation in the budget process. Mobile phones are used to invite citizens to the participatory budgeting assemblies, for voting, and allowing citizens to send a text to identify which of the priorities they would like to see addressed in their community.
