NEXPO 2013, Croatia September 25-27

(c) NEXPO, Croatia

NEXPO, the South-East Europe International Municipal Fair, organized by the Network of Associations of Local Authorities in South-East Europe (NALAS), is the largest and most important municipal event in that region. It brings together local governments, local government associations, development agencies, civil society, and businesses from South-East Europe (SEE) and beyond.

NEXPO promotes the role of local governments and the process of decentralization. It is an opportunity for regional networking and regional businesses, promotes decentralized cooperation, and helps build peace and stability.
NEXPO 2013 is organized in the cities of Rijeka and Opatija, in the Republic of Croatia. The theme of NEXPO 2013 is “The Road to EU Integration: Removing Barriers, Unlocking Our Potential.”

During a one-day conference, participants will discuss important topics for the future of the region. The fair also provides opportunities for local governments to meet representatives from businesses, present their ideas, and attract potential investors for their projects in energy efficiency and renewable energies.

As part of the collaboration with NALAS, the World Bank-Austria Urban Partnership Program, on September 26, is conducting two short workshops on self-assessment tools and anticorruption, and will disseminate SEE experiences, knowledge, and learning products.

The World Bank Institute’s (WBI) Urban Development practice will showcase products such as e-learning courses in Municipal Finances - A Learning Program for Local Governments and Sustainable Urban Land Use Planning, and also invite municipal representatives who received the Program's support in 2010 - 2013 to present and share what they have achieved with and beyond the WB-Austria Urban Partnership program's support.

Additionally, face-to-face workshops on Municipal Finance Self-Assessment, Urban Planning Self-Assessment, Urban Governance and Anticorruption Capacity Building, Social Accountability Audit, and Capacity Building trainings have been delivered throughout the seven countries of SEE.

NEXPO 2013 will bring together more than 4000 participants, 500 local governments from SEE and beyond, 100 investors, development agencies, and civil society in Rijeka.

It is free and open to the public.
